Sonic Mushroom Blast - Aquatic Ruins Demo

Note: This is a mirror download for the SAGE 2024 demo of Sonic Mushroom Blast (patch file is identical to the one there and not updated at all). I will also provide a download for this on GameBanana.

Disclaimer: For best experience, play this hack with GlideN64 or ParaLLEl video plugins with FRAMEBUFFER ENABLED. I have not tested this demo specifically on any other emulator so your mileage may vary. This demo REQUIRES the expansion pak, however, the final game will not as this demo level will NOT be included in the final game.

After 2 years, a special 1-level demo for Sonic Mushroom Blast is here, with a original level inspired by Aquatic Ruins from Sonic 2 (Waterbound Western). This level boasts being the largest horizontal single area (without any fancy loading zones or level streaming tricks) level ever made in SM64, being 16x larger than a vanilla SM64 level (visually speaking, collision is only 8x).

This also serves as a tech demo for my custom lighting engine I've dubbed Hedgehog Engine 64, for it's ability to fake global illumination indirect lighting via the framebuffer. If you run this on an emulator that doesn't support framebuffer, the lighting engine will fall back to the older Lantern Engine 64 palette based static lighting system (which will still be used in some levels in the final game).

This demo contains 2 "stars" (fake chaos emeralds) and no 100 coin "star".

Hope you enjoy, despite this being rushed for the SAGE 2024 deadline!
